Eligibility Criteria | IHE Delft Programme for International Students.
To be eligible for the Scholarships at IHE Delft, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must have been offered admission to study at the institution.
- Must have obtained relevant bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Demonstrate excellent academic and leadership potentials.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) Scholarships
For the academic year 2024-2025 there will be scholarships available from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which cover approximately 50% (€17,500) of the total cost of the programme.
The candidate is expected to cover the remaining part. These scholarships are available for the Sanitation profile of the track Water and Health. Other tracks and profiles are not eligible for the BMGF scholarship. The matching funds can be provided by yourself, your employer or any other sponsor, or combination of those. Especially women are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

If you wish to apply for this scholarship you need to meet the following criteria:
- Be from a low or middle income country (see list on OECD website)
- Have a provisional admission to the programme
- Have secured 50% matching funds (evidence required)

If you meet all the above-mentioned conditions, you will be automatically shortlisted for this scholarship. You do not need to apply separately for it.
Selection criteria
At least half of the scholarships will be awarded to female candidates. Selection will furthermore be based on your motivation which you need to present in the application form when you submit your online application. It is therefore of utmost importance to pay additional attention to the motivation questions. Applicants whose motivation has the best fit with the programme objectives will pass to the next stage of selection (interview).

Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP)
The Indonesian Education Scholarship (BPI) for PhD programmes is a scholarship programme funded by the Indonesian government and is managed by LPDP to finance higher education in Indonesian or overseas institutions.
It involves a full scholarship for programmes at top universities. The applicants targeted for the BPI scholarship are Indonesian citizens with excellent academic achievement and strong leadership quality who wish to continue pursuing studies on a Master’s or PhD level.
IHE Delft’s PhD degrees are awarded jointly with a relevant partner university (Delft University of Technology, Wageningen University and Research, University of Amsterdam, Twente University) depending on the affiliation of the professor with who you’ll be registered.

The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program is open to women and men from developing countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts. IHE Delft’s MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development is on the list of preferred JJ/WBGSP programmes.
The window for 2024 JJ/WBGSP scholarship is open from March 29, 2024 to May 27, 2024.

Mahmoud S. Rabbani Scholarship
The Mahmoud S. Rabbani Scholarship is intended for Arab students who have been officially accepted into a Master’s or PhD programme in the Netherlands.
Candidates must be nationals of any of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, Yemen, or Sudan. The maximum amount of an MSR scholarship is €15,000. Applications for the 2024/2025 academic year will open on January 1, 2024. The application deadline will be March 31st, 2024.

MENA (or MSP) scholarship programme for short courses
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Scholarship Programme (or MSP) offers scholarships for short courses to professionals from ten countries.
The scholarships can be used for short courses in the Netherlands. The programme is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

MENA CD
IHE Delft will provide water professionals from seven MENA countries (Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen) and Sudan with MSc level education in Delft on relevant topics for MENA region water scarcity. 5 fellowships will be awarded for the academic year 2024-2025.
To increase the relevance for MENA specific water scarcity challenges, and to stimulate cooperation between professionals from different disciplines offered by IHE Delft, the students will participate in a number of additional MENA-dedicated activities.
The fellowship includes: full tuition fee, health insurance, cost of visa/residence permit for the Netherlands and a monthly allowance of EUR 970 per month from the start till the end date to the programme (not exceeding 12 months)

- Candidates are a national of and work and/or live in one of the eligible MENA countries: (Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen) and Sudan

- Application for admission submitted before 1 May 2024

Application procedure
- Please submit an online application for admission through the website of IHE Delft. When you are completing your application, you will be requested to answer 5 motivation questions. In order to increase your chances for scholarship, you are requested to answer these questions as detailed as possible and focus in your motivation on your vision on Water Scarcity in your country. The questions you need to answer when completing your application are the following:
- Why are you applying for this programme? Max 600 characters with spaces
- What are the specific challenges, issues or problems (in your country, region or worldwide) that you would like to address once you have completed this study? Max 1000 characters with spaces.
- How will this programme enable you to address above-mentioned challenges, issues or problems? Max 1000 characters with spaces.
- What are your most relevant qualifications and experiences that make you a suitable candidate for this programme? Max 1000 characters with spaces.
- Where do you see yourself five years after you have graduated? Max 1000 characters with spaces.
- There is a question in the application form, where you have to provide financial information. Under the heading Financial, there is a question called: payment options. There you have to select: Scholarship.
- After receipt of your application, IHE admission committee will decide if you meet the academic admission criteria. If this case you will receive a provisional admission letter and you will automatically take part in the selection for a MENA scholarship.
- In July you will be informed if you have been selected for a scholarship. As the number of MENA scholarships is limited, you are requested to search in the meantime for other scholarships.

As IHE Delft is a UNESCO affiliated Institute and not a regular university, it may not appear in their website listings of eligible institutions. It is worth applying for funding once you have been academically accepted by IHE Delft, as these organisations will most likely consider your fellowship application. The name UNESCO-IHE (former name of IHE Delft) may appear in some application systems.

OFID sponsors outstanding young students from developing countries through graduate studies in a development-related discipline.
OFID awards its scholarships to qualified applicants who have obtained or are on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree and who wish to study for a Master’s degree.
Applicants must be from a developing country (except OFID Member Countries), and he/she must first obtain admission to pursue a Master’s degree studies in a relevant field of development, from any recognized university/college in the world.

Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP)
The Dutch Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) aims to contribute to sustainable and inclusive development by offering access to education and training to professionals and organisations. OKP-LPDP: StuNed Joint Scholarship Programme
Scholarship for Indonesian mid-career professionals to pursue a master’s degree at a Dutch Higher Education Institution.
In 2024, Nuffic Neso Indonesia, Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) and Directorate General of Higher Education – Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (DIKTI) agreed to collaborate in a joint scholarship programme through its StuNed Scholarship and DIKTI-LPDP Scholarship programmes. In 2024, this collaboration has been integrated into the Orange Knowledge Programme.
The OKP – LPDP joint scholarship programme aims to optimise the resources that the collaborating organisations have by focusing on specific areas that are mutually relevant and important to Indonesia’s development priorities, the development of key expertise in the Dutch knowledge sector, and the bilateral cooperation agenda of the two countries. Target Group This scholarship targets Indonesian mid-career professionals who aim to contribute to Indonesia’s sustainable and inclusive development.

Rotary Scholarship for Water and Sanitation Professionals
The strategic partnership between The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education aims to tackle the world’s water and sanitation crisis by increasing the number of trained professionals to devise, plan, and implement solutions in developing and emerging countries. Through this partnership, scholarships are awarded annually to IHE Delft MSc students. The scholarships are designed to promote long-term productive relationships between Rotarians and highly skilled water and sanitation professionals in their communities.

WFF EFN Russell E. Train Fellowships
Russell E. Train Fellowships support individuals pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in conservation. Each year, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) supports committed conservationists from target countries to receive financial support for their studies and field research. Applicants must return to their home countries to work in conservation for at least two years after completing their degree. This scholarship opportunity may be of particular interest to prospective students who are admitted to the Water Resources and Ecosystem Health Track of the new Master of Science in Water and Sustainable Development.

WMO Fellowships
WMO is partnering with IHE Delft to jointly support one or two scholarships a year from developing and least developed countries to undertake the MSc programme in Water and Sustainable Development.
To be considered for a fellowship for the academic year 2024-2025 under WMO/IHE Delft joint funding applicants must:
- have unconditional admission to the IHE MSc programme in Water and Sustainable Development.
- complete and submit a WMO Fellowship Nomination Form (FNF, https://community.wmo.int/fellowships-applications) to WMO by 1 March 2024. The FNF MUST be submitted through, and approved by, the Permanent Representative (PR) of your country with WMO. You will find the contact of your country’s Permanent Representative in the WMO community website: https://community.wmo.int/members .
- WMO can only consider your request for scholarship if your application is formally presented through the officially designated Permanent Representative of your Government with the Organization. This is usually the Director of National Meteorological and Hydrometeorological Service(s). Please note that the PR may give preference to personnel from the National Meteorological Service or National Hydrological Service of their country.
